Growing Veterinarians

Due to changes in state and federal law, our spay/ neuter assistance program is temporarily unavailable. Our full-service veterinary partner in Matamoros, Mexico is no longer easily accessible for our organization.

We are open to partnering with any local veterinarian that would be interested in working with our organization for our spay/ neuter assistance program. The veterinary partner would not need to lower or reduce their prices. Our organization covers the bill. We just need a veterinary partner that is willing to allow us to help owned pets.

There are organizations that import veterinarians to the RGV from out of state to come for mass spay/ neuter, but those clinics can end up costing $500 or more per spay/ neuter… and after the veterinarian leaves, there is nobody available to provide on-going care to those animals. We are working on a more permanent and sustainable solution. We are growing our own veterinarians. We currently have two veterinary students that volunteer for our organization that plan to return to the RGV after they finish veterinary school to focus on spay/ neuter. Through donations, our organization can offer our volunteers tuition assistance that is paid directly to their school. We believe this investment will offer a great return that will benefit the animals in our community. If you would like to donate towards this worthy endeavor, please tag your donation under “growing veterinarians.” The stray problem in the RGV is our problem. We cannot continue to sit around and expect that some outside organization will swoop in and fix it. The solution is up to us.

Adoptions

Our Coalition always has wonderful companion animals available for adoption. Each pet is fully vetted with spay or neuter, vaccines, testing (age appropriate), on preventatives, and microchipped. Any pets that require additional medical services are treated prior to adoption. Our pets come with a full behavior assessment by one of our trained professionals. All pets complete basic home training prior to adoption.

Pet Retention Services

We understand that emergencies arise and unexpected life events happen. Our team is comprised of experienced veterinary technicians, experienced dog groomers, and trained animal handlers. We are knowledgeable in first aid and performing initial examinations. Our professionals can refer you appropriately. We offer assistance with food, pet-friendly housing referrals, spay & neuter, respite care, and much more. The behavior assessment and modification plans are offered free of charge to prevent pets from ending up in local shelters.

Our team can guide you through the process of finding the right animal match, preparing you to be a handler, completing the training of your animal, and covering your personal liability.
